(Photos of Twin Lakes, The Village of Twin Lakes & Bike Ride Up The Canyon) - May 1, 2007
Photos of Twin Lakes
I made it out to the Twin Lakes region this morning and spring is
definitely in the air! I snapped three photos at an overlook that includes Twin Peaks
(alt. 13,333 feet) on the left and Mt. Elbert (alt. 14,433 feet) on the right.
Scenery In and Around the Village of Twin Lakes, Colorado
Here are three more photos of the mountain scenery
as I drove west on Highway 82 towards the town of Twin Lakes.
The Twin Lakes General Store (top) is open all season
and I look forward to the Windspirit at Twin Lakes (middle) opening up again. On the
final day of the 2006 Colorado Guy Festival,
a few of us had lunch there. ;)
There are a few historic structures (bottom) from Twin Lakes' settlement days
other side of the road.
I peddled around the very small village and took notice of
some interesting things outside the Twin Lakes Nordic Lodge.
Bicycling West on Highway 82 (Towards Independence Pass)
I have begun to train regularly on my road bike
and I peddled seven miles uphill into the canyon that leads to Independence Pass.
I was tempted to bike further in, but I wanted to ride somewhat easy today.
No worries ... I will be bicycling Independence Pass soon! :)
Here's a sign showing the mileage to points west of Independence Pass.
At the beginning, I continually stopped biking to photograph
great views like this one of Twin Peaks.
I zoomed-in on Mt. Hope, located southeast of the Twin Lakes summit.
A steep mile or two into the canyon, I captured another shot of Twin Peaks.
