Colorado Guy Independence Pass St. Elmo Ghost Town

Twin Lakes, Colorado

A village surrounded by mountains with a gorgeous reservoir ...
There's much to be said about the beauty and glory of Twin Lakes, Colorado. This is my working page with hikes, photos and information about this wonderful mountain region. For now, below are images when I biked around Twin Lakes Reservoir, the village and up Highway 82. I also have a website dedicated to this great little town:

May 1, 2007 - I visited Twin Lakes this morning and spring is in the air!

I snapped three photos at an overlook that includes Twin Peaks (elevation 13,333 feet) on the left and Mt. Elbert (elevation 14,433 feet) on the right.

Mount Elbert is the highest peak in all of Colorado.

The Twin Lakes General Store (top) is open all season.

Regretfully, the Windspirit at Twin Lakes (middle) is out of business.

There are a few historic structures (bottom) from Twin Lakes' settlement days other side of the road. This building acts as the Twin Lakes Visitor Center in the summer.

I biked around the village and noticed interesting things outside the Twin Lakes Nordic Lodge.

    Bicycling West on Highway 82

I have begun to train regularly on my road bike and pedaled seven miles uphill into the canyon that leads to Independence Pass.

Here's a sign showing the mileage to points west. Aspen, Basalt and Glenwood Springs are all on the other side of the divide.

Twin Peaks, Colorado At the beginning, I stopped many times to photograph great views like this one.
