Tires, Old Muffler And Appliances Placed On Front Porch

Steve Wants Georgia and Tennessee Visitors To "Feel At Home" - June 23, 2006
Colorado Springs Real Estate

BUENA VISTA, COLORADO -- A solution was found with what to do with Steve's old muffler!

With friends from Georgia and Tennessee soon visiting Buena Vista and staying with Steve in his cabin, the so-called "Internet personality" decided to place various items of junk on his front porch, including his winter tires, an old fan and various appliances. He wants his southern friends to experience a "touch of home" as they enjoy their stay in the small central Colorado town in the Rocky Mountains.

"That's not exactly the 'mint on the pillow treatment,' but it's very generous." stated April, a friend in Riverside, California who plans to visit Colorado in August, "I am so impressed with how you go all the way for your visitors. You're just making them feel at home."

Along with the old muffler that fell off Steve's vehicle two weeks ago, Steve added a pile of his winter tires, an old fan, a space heater, an ironing board and a garbage can without a top that is full of crap and junk.

"We have a lot of broken down tractors on our land and I know I would appreciate it" stated Brandi in rural Kansas, "It is truly 'hick' decorating and done in such a creative arrangement."

"I just want the junk and crap to make it like the way it probably is for them in Georgia or Tennessee." explained Steve.

As the news spread, a rural Oklahoma rancher who spoke on the condition of anonymity had an opportunity to reflect. "I live with junk from my dad and it's a pain in the butt ... Lots of flea market treasures he's collected and a few old trucks."

The Risk Southerners Might Be Offended

Danny W., a lifetime Southerner and family man in Pensacola, Florida, expressed concern that some might be offended. He wrote:

"I have to admit, if I were from Georgia or Tennessee, I may feel a little insulted. I am born and raised southern and I haven't seen to much in your articles that like my home. Of course, I did go to college. That could be the difference. Maybe the southerners you have met skipped that part of the educational process! Besides that, I heard it was Mississippi folk that had their refrigerator on the front porch. :0)"

Pete Harrison of South Carolina disagreed. "Huh? Offended? You just put out the welcome mat to us Southerners! If there was a 69 Ford LTD 4 door, 390, C6 automatic, minimal rust, & on cinder blocks in the yard, I'd be there for sure!"

Pat C., a regular forum visitor who lived many years in Georgia before recently moving to Minnesota, had a unique perspective. "You need a houndawg or birdawg under the porch for it to be truly southern. As it is, it looks more like Michigan to me."

"People talk about junk in people's yards like it's a bad thing." stated Steve, "I think it's cool when people have old rusted out stuff on their property."

Steve's guests will be visiting next week and he plans to take them on many scenic drives and hikes in the area.
