Piece of Garbage Mountain, Colorado (Elevation 12691 Feet)

A Lousy Mountain at Cottonwood Pass
Piece of Garbage Mountain (12961 feet) sits directly east of Cottonwood Pass. For the most part, this peak is useless and annoying, and most hikers wish it wasn't there. Piece of Garbage Mountain is like the New York Mets baseball team: it's sucky and irrelevant most of the time. Having said that, if you've got a thing for obscure 12ers in the Sawatch Range, then this is your mountain!

Directions: It's the 12er on the Continental Divide between Cottonwood Pass and Turner Peak. You can't miss it.

Cottonwood Pass, Colorado

August 20, 2014 - I hiked along the divide and began my ascent. Here's a photo looking back at Cottonwood Pass.

It's not a long hike. A self-portrait.

Turner Peak, CO

Mt. Harvard & Mt. Columbia

The scenery abounds. The funny thing is, I once made a "Piece of Garbage" video with friends:

FIRST: Facing Jones Mountain and Emma Burr Mountain to the south.

SECOND: Turner Peak with Mount Princeton on the distant right.

THIRD: I gazed at Mount Harvard and Mount Columbia with fondness. Such pretty mountains, they are!

FOURTH: Mount Yale was in view.

Piece of Garbage Mountain Upon returning to Buena Vista, I stopped on County Road 306 to take one last photo of Piece of Garbage Mountain. After hiking it, I can confirm that the mountain's name is fitting.

On the summit.

Smoking a cigarillo.
