Missouri High Point - Taum Sauk Mountain

Missouri's Highest Natural Point - Taum Sauk Mountain
Taum Sauk Mountain, the Missouri High Point, is located in the St. Francois Mountains in southeast Missouri. The high point is located in Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. From the main parking lot, a short hike of 0.3 miles on a paved sidewalk leads to the summit.

Missouri High Point
There it is, the highest point in Missouri. It was a beautiful late October 2010 day. I stood there and thought about the masses of people in Kansas City and St. Louis, my redneck friends in rural southern Missouri and places like Joplin, Jefferson City and Hannibal. At this spot, I stood above all over them! :)

I'm sure this may seem like a random spot in the forest. Indeed, the short hike to the summit didn't seem to have much ascent, but it's this is a pretty spot in the woods.
Missouri High Point
Myself included. Earlier in the week, I visited the Louisiana High Point and Mississippi High Point and spent a week in Arkansas. With Taum Sauk Mountain checked off my list, I've now visited 20 U.S. state high points. 30 more to go! :)

On the other side of the parking lot is a beautiful overlook.
