0.5 Mile Trail to Miracle Rock Near Grand Junction and Glade Park in Western Colorado
Oh yes, this rock should be considered a miracle ... Miracle Rock is one of many unique rock structures
in western Colorado that is worthy of a visit.
It's balanced on a long and narrow base that makes its name so fitting. The Miracle Rock Recreation Area
offers a picnic area at the trailhead, and a well-marked 0.5 mile trail leads to the rock. If you enjoy getting away from the crowds,
Miracle Rock is probably a good option due to its remote location in western Mesa County, Colorado. (On my midday visit on a Saturday in April,
there was only one family from Missouri who were picnicing at the trailhead,
and I saw no one on the trail.)
Directions: From Glade Park, Colorado -- that's west of
Colorado National Monument and
Grand Junction -- travel west on DS Road. Then make a left (south) on
9 8/10 Road. Go for about one mile and the parking area and trailhead is on your left. You can also search for "Miracle Rock Colorado" on Google maps.
You'll spend a lot of time staring at this thing! :)
By the way, there is a picnic area at the trailhead, but if you're in the mood for a picnic, having your picnic at Miracle Rock.
And for that matter, this would be a great place to bring a folding chair and book, or for an artist to bring his or her easel, canvas and paint supplies.
