Lost Lake Near Cottonwood Pass

(A Morning Walk to a High Altitude Lake Near The Continental Divide - June 26, 2007)

Lost Lake Near Cottonwood Pass

Lost Lake is located south of Cottonwood Pass on the east side of the Continental Divide. From where the trail begins on Cottonwood Pass Road, it took me a mere 40 minutes hiking at a relaxed pace to reach the lake. The map of the area by TopoZone was particularly helpful and can be seen here here. Adjacent are a couple of shots of Lost Lake from the same vantage point.
Lost Lake I find photographing lakes to be tricky, being that they are flat horizontal planes. Still, I like the reflection in this one.
Lost Lake Near the middle of the lake is an island!
Lost Lake One token photo myself. Here are other lakes, trails and places in the area:
  • Cottonwood Lake
  • Hartenstein Lake
  • Turner Peak
  • Mt. Yale
  • Cottonwood Pass
  • Ptarmigan Lake
  • Unnamed Pass Near Turner Peak
  • Mt. Princeton

  • Scenery Along The Trail To Lost Lake

Two photos that include Jones Mountain out there.

I would like to dedicate these two pictures to my friends in Arizona who are enjoying daily temperatures reaching 100+ degrees. There are still a few small patches of snow along the trail in the forest out here! ;)
Colorado There were many scenic spots like this one, where I was tempted to climb up to the top of the ridge, which is part of the Continental Divide. I've developed the hobby of visiting the Continental Divide for www.Continental-Divide.net.
Cottonwood Pass I passed by another lake that was closer to Cottonwood Pass Road, which appears unnamed according to my maps. You can see the switchbacks leading to Cottonwood Pass behind.
Turner Peak A great view of Turner Peak near Lost Lake.
