Jug Handle Arch - Potash Road In Moab, Utah

The arches abound in Moab ...
If there was such a list, Jug Handle Arch would rank low among the myriad arches around Moab, Utah, but for those of you who want to visit arches outside of Arches National Park, this is a good option.

Jug Handle Arch is located on Potash Road, beyond the Corona Arch Trailhead. A large sign marks the arch, and should that sign be removed, you can't miss it on the right as you come along a bend. Your topographical map of Moab (I use National Geographic #501 "Moab South") also marks the arch.

It sure does look like a handle on a jug, doesn't it? More like a plastic milk jug maybe. :)

Railroad tracks run through the canyon to Potash, Utah, where the Potash Mine exists. The road was built in the early 1960's, and it is a very scenic canyon with the Colorado River flowing through it.

Other arches and bridges around Moab:
  • Wilson Arch
  • Tower Arch
  • Double O Arch
  • Morning Glory Natural Bridge
  • Landscape Arch (video)
  • Facing the arch, I turned 90 degrees to the right for this photo of Potash Road and canyon walls. You have this kind of scenery for the entire 16 miles from Moab to Potash!
Long Canyon, Utah Just past the arch is the parking lot and trailhead for Long Canyon. A 4WD vehicle or mountain biker can take the road/trail up the canyon, over Pucker Pass and then toward Highway 313 and Dead Horse State Park.

Jug Handle Arch might be the Chicago Cubs of Utah's arches, but it deserves admiration. :)
