My entire morning was free and I decided to hike the Lost Man Trail in the Hunter
Fryingpan Wilderness. It begins at the first major switchback on the west
(Aspen & Pitkin County) side of Independence Pass. The trail leads up to
Independence Lake and Lost Man Lake. |
 |
Heading uphill, I turned back to get a shot (top) of
the final stretch of Independence Pass Road just west of the Continental Divide.
As you can see in the bottom photo, the Colorado scenery was just wonderful! |
 |
LEFT: Now the Roaring Fork River, which flows
into Aspen, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs before spilling into the Colorado River,
begins from the snowmelt in the area of Independence Lake. Notice the pretty white
flowers surrounding the creek. There were so many interesting waterfalls
in this area!
RIGHT: An example of one of many Colorado wildflowers that are out. |
 |
Heading upward, the patches of
Twin Lakes snow became larger and larger! |
 |
And here's one photo of me standing on a large patch of snow. And yes folks, I was here on June 22! ;) |
 |
I arrived at Independence Lake to remarkably, it is still covered with ice and snow.
Wow! I then continued to hike to the pass that seperates Independence Lake
and Lost Man Lake and snapped the bottom photo of Independence Lake. It is a really scenic area! |
 |
On the pass, here's the view of Lost Man Lake. |
 |
A grand view of Colorado's Rocky Mountains facing south
towards the area I had just walked up. |
 |
One shot when I arrived back at Independence Pass Road. Here are all of my pages from the Aspen & Independence Pass area:
