My Pictures at the Great Sand Dunes National Park - April 26, 2007
This was my second visit to the Great Sand Dunes in 2007 and
I came at a perfect time: Snow was covering part of the dunes
from a recent snowstorm and Medano
Creek was running past much of the main dune area.
This was my first time to the park where Medano Creek was
really running and filling up much of its creek bed.
In May 2006, I hiked up a few miles to reach where the creek had water
(See: Medano Creek 2006),
but other than that one time, Medano Creek has been completely dry.
I included four photos of Medano Creek, the sand dunes and Mt. Herard in the background.
I honestly couldn't decide which ones to "go with" and so I opted to show all four. ;)
One photos with me. I was so happy to be there!
Two photos the sand dunes highlighted with snow.
It was interesting to see the
snow pile up in riffles just like the sand.
Folks, I know I have said this many times already, but
I really suggest visiting the Great Sand Dunes.
If you love sand and great mountain views,
this is the place to visit!
I hiked to the Great Sand Dunes Trail Overlook, which had plenty of snow.
Kudos to the prickly pear cacti along the trail that were braving the cold! ;)

A sign about the history of the San Luis Valley.
