Dallas Divide - Elevation 8,970 Feet

My Biking Photos From Ridgway to Dallas Divide Round Trip; Photos of Mount Sneffels Range

A Scenic Cycling Route In Southwest Colorado
Dallas Divide is a pretty mountain pass that divides the Dolores River and Uncompahgre River watersheds in the San Juan Mountain region. The scenery might be some of the best in the entire USA, and in fact, this route is part of the San Juan Byway Loop that includes Cortez, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride and Rico.

For my bike ride, I began in Ridgway and traveled 10.5 miles (one way) on State Highway 62. The shoulder is mostly wide and drivers were courteous, as I gained 2000 feet in elevation to Dallas Divide. As you'll see in the photo gallery, to the south were the towering peaks of the Sneffels Range, one of many mountain groups that comprise of the San Juan Mountains.

No, this is not a dream. That's a typical stunning view of the San Juan Mountains from the road!

Ridgway, Colorado

June 28, 2013 - At the beginning, I putzed around Ridgway.

Adjacent are three photos that include the "Welcome to Ridgway" sign, the Ouray County Fair & Rodeo and Sherman Street which takes you through town.

Ouray County Scenery Out of Ridgway and traveling west.
Colorado San Juan Mountains A few miles in, the scenery takes a major turn for the better.

Massive peaks from the San Juan Mountains stand afar.

Mount Sneffels Range, Colorado A beautiful photo of the Sneffels Range. Mt. Sneffels (14,150 ft) is the tallest peak on the right.

Folks, I'm not kidding. This section between Ridgway and Placerville is very pretty!

Two more photos of Mt. Sneffels.

In 2007, Jay Wilson and I climbed this mountain via the standard route in Yankee Boy Basin. Sweet memories!

The scenery at Dallas Divide is disappointing after you've seen the San Juan Mountains for miles on your climb. However, there are aspen groves that I'd think would be colorful during the fall season.

Oh ... and that's me. No neglecting getting a self-portrait like at McClure Pass! :)

Coming back down, I got my speed to 37 miles per hour, which (I'm pretty sure) is my all-time high.

TOP: I did stop once to capture the mountainous view to the east.

SECOND: As I was rolling into Ridgway, a beautiful photo of mountains. The town of Ouray is nestled in that valley among the slopes.

    Showing you around.

I also hit the sign at North Cochetopa Pass last year. :)
