Cimarron, Colorado - Montrose County
Cimarron, Colorado
April 16, 2009 - I snapped the photo above while pulled over on the westbound side of State Highway 50.
It's a nice mountain view, isn't it? According to my
map, Poverty Mesa and Sheep Knob consist of the peak and area behind it.
Also, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a short distance north of town.
The canyon that splits off at the major bend in the highway travels north and flows downhill to the Gunnison River.
Not much exists in this area known as Cimarron, Colorado in Montrose County.
There is an abandoned gas station and motel on the westbound side. Farther east on Highway 50, there appears to be a lodge
located near the border for Gunnison County and Montrose County. And yes, the
Cimarron Mountains, consisting of behemouths
Uncompaghre Peak (alt. 14,309 feet) and Wetterhorn Peak (alt. 14,017 feet) can
be seen from this general area. It looks like a very pretty and isolated mountain area!
