(Boss Lake - Located Near Garfield, CO and Monarch Mountain In Chaffee County)
The Boss Lake Trailhead is located approximately
one mile from Garfield on U.S. Highway 50. If you have a high
clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle,
you can drive up to the trailhead, or you can do as I did: Park along the highway
(across from the Monarch Lodge) and hike one mile up the road.
The trail is about 0.5 miles to the lake.
Another way up is to hike on "Boss Lake Road" (CR 235) which goes around Syncline Hill and then directly to the reservoir.

I am not necessarily much of a lake enthusiast, but I
was curious to hike the trail and see a new place in Chaffee County.
I also figured this would be a decent and simple hike to keep me in shape with my
plans to climb Mt. Sneffels next Monday morning.
At the lake, the view looking back east toward
the canyon that leads to Maysville, Poncha Springs and Salida.
