Boss Lake Reservoir

(Boss Lake - Located Near Garfield, CO and Monarch Mountain In Chaffee County - August 16, 2007)

Boss Lake Trailhead The Boss Lake Trailhead is located approximately one mile from Garfield on Highway 50. If you have a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle, you can drive up to the trailhead, or you can do as I did: Park along Highway 50 (across from the Monarch Lodge) and hike one mile up the road. The actual trail is only maybe 0.5 miles to the lake.

I am not necessarily much of a lake enthusiast, but I was curious to hike the trail and see a new place in Chaffee County.

I also figured this would be a decent and simple hike to keep me in shape with my plans to take on Mt. Sneffels next Monday morning. ;)

View at Boss Lake At the lake, here is the view looking back downhill (relatively east) towards the canyon that leads to Maysville, Poncha Springs and Salida.

The lighting was a little difficult at time. I did, however, think this photo with all the green was kind of nice.

  • Mt. Aetna I zoomed-in on Mt. Aetna. Now there's a Colorado "13er" that doesn't got a lot of respect!
Boss Lake Reservoir I think this is my favorite picture of the lake.

  • Boss Lake One photo of myself.

Again, this was one of those times where I was intentional in spending some quality time with God. I am thankful that I seemed to have the entire reservoir to myself! You can read my "Christian story" here: My Story. Or, you can read a little more about what I'm taking on spiritually from my introductory excerpt at a Gunnison County Overlook.
